Diabetes related emergencies may often be mistaken for drunk driving.
 
The Diabetes Centers at Middle Tennessee Medical Center and Baptist Hospital have worked in collaboration with law enforcement officers to implement a Diabetes Alert program for our region. This initiative will help to identify individuals who may be having diabetes related emergencies while driving.
 
The Diabetes Alert program includes a sticker that will alert law enforcement officers and EMS that the driver has diabetes and may be experiencing a low or high blood sugar episode. The sticker is placed on the driver’s side rear window of the vehicle. Law enforcement officers and EMS have been trained to recognize and respond to symptoms related to these emergencies.
 
This is a FREE service and is available to anyone in Middle Tennessee who has diabetes.
 
To obtain a Diabetes Alert sticker, a pre-printed Diabetes Alert prescription must be completed by a physician. The form can be taken to a designated Diabetes Alert sticker distribution site:  *MTMC and Baptist Diabetes Center patients do not need a prescription and can pick up a sticker at one of the locations listed below.

About the Program

The Diabetes Alert program was founded in November 2009 when Wellmont
Health System and Mountain States Health Alliance in Northeast Tennessee
began a collaborative initiative with local and state law enforcement to provide
the Diabetes Alert window sticker program. The program has expanded across
